Church of Santa Caterina in Viagrande
The Church of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria in Viagrande is the second most important religious building in the village.
The date of construction of the original building is not known but the first news attesting to the existence of a church in this place dates back to 1571. The building was completely destroyed following the 1693 earthquake in the Val di Noto and subsequently rebuilt in neoclassical style.
The simple façade is divided into two orders: the first order is closed laterally by two simple pilasters surmounted by an architrave and a slightly overhanging triangular tympanum. In the center there is an architraved portal; on the second level we find the belfry, which houses six bells, consisting of a high base on which there are two single-lancet windows with round arches surmounted by a slightly projecting frame and a triangular tympanum. In the side elevation there is an architraved portal and three lowered arch windows.
The interior, with a single nave, has a rectangular plan and a semicircular apse.
