Church of San Giuseppe in Zafferana Etnea
The Church of San Giuseppe in Zafferana Etnea is the building of worship of the village of Pisano Etneo.
It was built in 1692 at the behest of Mons. Andrea Riggio, bishop of Catania, and until the beginning of the 1800s it was the the only place of worship on the eastern side of Etna. It was entirely destroyed by the earthquake of 1894 and rebuilt in the early twentieth century based on the architect's design. Filadelfo Fichera.
The Romanesque-Lombard style façade features a valuable portal with a round arch framed by two rows of Ionic columns and surmounted by the statue of St. Joseph in white stone and a valuable three-light window.
Inside the church there are some valuable works: sacred furnishings belonging to the ancient abbey and the valuable canvas depicting Saint Joseph, the work of Antonio Bova.
