Lava flow of 1992 in Zafferana Etnea
The lava flow from the 1992 eruption of Etna touched the city of Zafferana Etnea. During this eruption the lava stopped a short distance from the town, changing the appearance of Val Calanna. In the place where the flow stopped, as a sign of thanks, a votive stele dedicated to the Madonna della Provvidenza, patron saint of Zafferana Etnea, was created.
