Municipal park in Zafferana
The park is accessed from a square named after John Paul II. The park is very popular throughout the year with tourists and locals. The interior can be divided into an ancient part and a more modern one: in the first part there is the large villa of the Marano princes. It is an aristocratic building in Art Nouveau style that belonged to the descendants of the Caracciolo princes of Marano. The building is now home to the Francesco Guglielmino Municipal Library and hosts various cultural shows. Of particular interest is the large aviary, also in Art Nouveau style, which is located in the garden adjacent to the villa of the princes at the end of the Viale degli illustrious men where the busts of the characters who have made the history of the Etna city are placed; in the second part of the villa there is the large recently built amphitheater which hosts a rich theater season every year.
