Balza Areddula in Alimena
Balza Areddula in Alimena, also known as Balza Edera, is a place of considerable ecological and historical-archaeological interest.
It is a rock ridge that reaches a height of 1007 meters above sea level, surmounted by a cross. The rocky ridge breaks in correspondence with the Salso river which, for a short stretch, flows between Balze Edera and Solletta, forming the so-called Strittu.
The site it is also of historical-archaeological importance as traces of an indigenous settlement dating back to the archaic age have been found in the Areddula district. Some scholars have identified this site with the city Imachara, mentioned by Cicero, Pliny and Ptolemy.
