Church of the Holy Souls in Alimena
The Church of the Holy Souls in Alimena is a small and ancient building of worship that stands on a small hill overlooking the valley.
It is believed in the same place, in the late 1500s, there existed a small chapel around which developed the first nucleus of the future inhabited center. The current building was built in 1629, at the behest of Antonio Alimena, founder of Alimena, and was dedicated to San Gaetano di Thiène, the first patron saint of Alimena. It was later dedicated to Santa Maria Maddalena and functioned as a mother church until the construction of the new mother church of Alimena. From the writings handed down by Vito Amico, it is known that at the time of his visit to Alimena, in 1757, the church was dedicated to souls in purgatory. Today the building is known as the Church of the Holy Souls, perhaps in honor of the painting still displayed on the main altar.
The simple gabled façade, stripped of architectural elements, has a single portal surmounted by a circular opening.< br>The interior, with a single nave, has two side altars and a terracotta floor.
