Church of Our Lady of Pompeii in Alimena
Madonna di Pompei Church in Alimena is a small rural chapel.
The original building suffered the roof collapse in 1980, shortly before mass was celebrated. The faithful, shouting about the miracle for having escaped danger, wanted the mass to be celebrated outside the church and on that occasion the celebrant urged the faithful to raise funds to restore it. So it was that in 1981 a new reinforced concrete building was built with modern criteria.
Inside the church there is an ancient painting of the Madonna del Rosario of Pompeii; 14 bronze tablets hang on the side walls, corresponding to the Stations of the Cross.
The church is now a pilgrimage destination on 8 May each year.
