Source of the Madonna dell'Olio in Blufi

The Fonte Madonna dell'Olio is a mineral oil spring dug into the rock located a few hundred meters from the sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Olio in Blufi. The source was known since ancient times: Aristotle in the Meteorologicorum speaks of a salty and acidic liquid, used as vinegar, which flows in the Sicanico agro. In the 19th century, a change in the location of the spring was made due to the exhaustion of the original spring. The oil from this spring, commonly called Madonna's oil is used as a remedy for some skin diseases and as a vermifuge.
