Church of Santa Venera in Castelbuono

The Church of Santa Venera in Castelbuono, known as the Badia, is one of the oldest churches in the village.
The date of construction of the temple is unknown, but it is known that in 1500 it housed the statue of the then patron saint of the town, Santa Venera, now private property. In the seventeenth century the building was expanded: the ancient Norman chapel is still visible and is now used as a sacristy.
The simple façade is enriched by the Chiaramonte arch and the presence of the bell tower. Of great value is the monumental wrought iron gate that delimits the atrium of the church.
The interior, with a single nave, hides a spectacular play of glass and decorations. The high altar, covered with inlaid glass decorations, features ivy inlays, crosses and instruments of martyrdom.
Of particular value is the image of the Santissima Addolorata, Santa Maria dei Sette dolori dei civili, placed on the high altar.
The annexed monastery, dating back to the 14th century, houses the municipal library
