Bastion of Cefalù
The Bastion of Capo Marchifava in Cefalù, located close to the Church of Itria, represents the northern end of the walls that surround Cefalù on the sea side.
The bastion of Cefalù, defined around 1600, represents the highest point of the enclosure and on this a polygonal base platform was built with the tip projected towards the sea reminiscent of the prow of a boat. The raised position with respect to the city center allows a perfect view over the entire gulf in front of the city.
The structures of the bastion were originally used as an infirmary for the Capuchin friars of Gibilmanna, today they are home to a multipurpose center: a digital museum, a multimedia reading room and an event space dedicated to multidisciplinary laboratories.
