Piedigrotta Church in Gangi
The Church of Piedigrotta in Gangi is a small and ancient building of worship located in the south-east of the town.
It was built in 1600 and is the seat of the Confraternity dedicated to the Holy Souls of Purgatory, founded on 21 August 1853.
The simple gabled façade features an arched portal flanked by two pilasters that support a slightly overhanging entablature. Next to the church stands the bell tower.
The interior is divided into three small naves.
Among the works kept in the church, noteworthy are: an oil canvas depicting Saint Mark, placed on the altar greater; the canvas depicting Saint Veronica, the work of the painter Salvo, placed on the sacristy door; wooden sculpture of the Madonna delle Grazie, located on the side altar; the canvas depicting Abraham and Isaac, a work by Salvo, placed on the side altar.
