Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Isnello
The Church of the Madonna del Rosario in Isnello, also known as the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario, is an ancient building of worship in the village.
It was built in the place where it is believed the ancient church of Sant' stood Elijah. In 1475, with the foundation of the adjoining Dominican convent, it became the convent church; at the end of the 16th century, when the convent was used as a palace for the Lords of Isnello, the church became the palatine chapel, while the chapel of San Giuseppe, which housed a very valuable triptych which was lost, was used as a mausoleum.
Inside the church there are works of notable artistic value: a frontal commissioned by Prince Pietro Santacolomba Denti; the fifteenth-century altarpiece attributed to the Flemish Simone de Wobreck depicting the Madonna of the Rosary and the fifteen mysteries; the seventeenth-century sacred vestment embroidered in gold, silk and coral known as the Complete Planet of Isnello.
