Piano Pomo in Madonie Park
Piano Pomo in the Madonie Park is a valley that opens at 1400 m on the north-eastern side of the Carbonara massif, the side of Castelbuono. The north-east facing slope is covered with beech trees, while the south-east facing slope is covered with oaks. Between these two slopes lies the grove of giant hollies . Piano Pomo is known for its Pagghiaru , a typical construction of the Sicilian pastoral tradition. It is a construction built using makeshift materials such as dry branches, stones and straw, which had the function of providing a temporary shelter for shepherds, characterized by a conical roof that allows rain and snow to slide outside.
