Pizzo Carbonara in Madonie
Pizzo Carbonara is the highest mountain in the Madonie and the second in Sicily after Etna.
From the top of Pizzo Carbonara it is possible to admire an incredible landscape karst characterized by rugged mountains that alternate with high mountain pastures. At the foot of Pizzo Carbonara, at 1600 meters above sea level, the Piano Battaglia extends, a particularly wide karst basin from which it is possible to take the path that leads to the top of the mountain. The route is very demanding and should only be tackled in conditions of excellent visibility.
In spring it will be possible to see the Peony and the Clover of Bivona-Bernardi and the Basilisk, an umbrella tree with the smell of aniseed and intense yellow color.
