Rocca di Sciara in Madonie
The Rocca di Sciara, in the Parco delle Madonie, is an imposing limestone massif overlooking the town of Caltavuturo. The ruins of the Terravecchia Castle rise majestically below it, standing out against the surrounding agricultural landscapes. The castle, which was originally surrounded by walls, today has the remains of some basement rooms and two buildings of ecclesiastical origin, surrounded by a thick wood due to the reforestation work that took place in the second half of the twentieth century.
E It is possible to reach the Rocca di Sciara through the geological path “Rocca di Sciara” whose entrance is located on the outskirts of the town of Caltavuturo. The path leads, among holm oaks, cork oaks and pines, through a 'very important geological succession , evidence of an ancient sedimentation basin. When you reach the top of the fortress you can admire the ruins of the Eremo di San Nicola, from which you can see a breathtaking view of the town below and the Madonie Park.
