Belvedere at the Cross in Petralia Sottana
The Belvedere alla Croce in Petralia Sottana is a place from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the town.
The belvedere was once a natural minaret, a place where Muslims who gathered in the mosque below were called to prayer , today the Church of Santa Maria alla Fontana.
Subsequently an iron cross was placed in this place, hence the name Belvedere alla Croce.
A legend has it that people live in this place small red-haired gnomes, locally called Vuvutieddi.
