Monument to Dr. Castrenza Gullo in Valledolmo
The Monument to Dr. Castrenza Gullo in Valledolmo is the only monumental work that the people of Valledolmo have erected for one of their fellow citizens.
Dr. Castrenza Gullo was a doctor who had always stood out for his availability and benevolence and generosity and who died after falling ill with double pneumonia after having helped a woman in labor struggling with a difficult labor on a very cold winter night. It is said that, on the occasion of his funeral, for the first time some women from the town also participated, having been excluded until then due to the custom that participation in funerals was reserved for men only.
The work is a bronze bust placed on a pedestal by the Palermo sculptor Antonio Ugo.
