Stagnone in Valledolmo
The Stagnone in Valledolmo is a grandiose water cistern of notable historical and architectural value.
It was built at the end of the 1700s at the behest of Matteo Lucchesi Palli, husband of Baroness Girolama Loppolo.
It is a water tank capable of accommodating over 1364 cubic meters of water, made of stone with central arches supported by powerful pillars and cross vaults.
In 1818 a landslide split the ground of the large cistern and diverted the water. Restoration works were carried out but they lasted years: a deeper landslide led to its total abandonment. Today the Stagnone has become a venue for cultural and artistic events.
