Valguarnera Caropepe had ancient fortified walls, which today have almost completely disappeared following the harmful work of man.
In fact, there was a massive fortification that reached the top part of the town, controlling the streets below, also equipped with some watchtowers.
The sections of walls still visible have been incorporated into the churches of Sant'Antonio and Sant'Anna, and today they serve as bell towers. One of the existing towers now constitutes the apse of the Church of San Francesco; a second tower is a private home which today houses the Caripa House Museum.
