Caltabellotta, the ancient Camico
According to some scholars Caltabellotta rises on the site of the mythical Kamico, capital of the kingdom of Cocalo.
According to the myth, Daedalus fled Crete with wings of wax together with his son Icarus. During the journey the son got too close to the sun and died, while Daedalus flying low and wetting his wings and managed to reach Sicily. He arrived in the territory where Cocalo reigned, who received him and who, thanks to his ingenuity, made him his friend. According to the myth, during his stay in the kingdom of Cocalo, Daedalus built great works such as the water supply system, known today as the garden of the kolymbethra in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento; he dug caves on Mount Kronio from which hot vapors came out, today known as Stufe di San Calogero di Sciacca; and built a city on an impregnable rock, the current Caltabellotta, where Calico built his palace.
Other scholars have identified the city of Calico in the territory of Sant'Angelo Muxaro.
