Castanea delle Furie occupies a very particular geographical position: it is located on the main ridge of the Peloritani mountains and dominates both the Tyrrhenian and the Ionian seas. Due to its characteristic position, Castanea represents a privileged point for the passage of migratory birds and in particular of birds of prey. Castanea delle Furie on the Strait of Messina, together with the Strait of Gibraltar and the Strait of the Bosphorus, represent the three most important observation points for the passage of birds of prey in the Mediterranean.
