Castelmola and Lady Chatterley

The city of Castelmola hides a close connection with the famous novel by D. H. Lawrence "Lady Chatterley's Lover".
The novel, published in 1928 and later withdrawn for obscenities, is inspired by the licentious conduct of the German baroness, Frieda von Richthofen, wife of the English writer. It is said that during their stay in Taormina, Frieda, in fact, had the opportunity to express her exuberant sensuality, among the vineyards and the farmsteads of the Castelmola countryside, with the young Molese mule driver, Peppino D'Allura. Peppino, who was in the service of a friend of Frieda's, Mrs. Betty, had been given the task of accompanying the baroness to her master's villa. It seems that the baroness used to cheer up this long journey with pleasant erotic games.
