The Church of San Michele in Savoca, now a national monument, has a small staircase located in front of the main portal to which a curiosity is linked.
It is said that, during the Middle Ages and subsequently, anyone who wanted to convert to Christianity and receive the Sacrament of Baptism, as an act of penance, had to climb the seven steps of the staircase outside the portal on their knees. In fact, originally there were seven steps on the staircase in front of the portal.
