According to the stories of the elderly, there are underground tunnels in Avola that connect the various squares.
The elderly of Avola say that as children they passed through these tunnels to move from one part of the city to the other. All the inhabitants of Avola know this story that has been told to them at least once by one of their countrymen. According to the stories these tunnels should have connected the various churches of the city.
This story is so deeply rooted in the collective imagination that a speleological group in collaboration with the pro loco of Avola went in search of these tunnels. No trace has been found to date.
