The Scammacca castle and other places in Acireale were the set of "The Godfather Part III".
The movie, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Al Pacino, is the third and final part of the Corleone family trilogy. Michael Corleone, now elderly and weakened by diabetes, begins a work of expulsion of the family from the world of the underworld by throwing himself into legal affairs with the Vatican Bank, and finds in Vincent Mancini, illegitimate son of his brother Sonny, a worthy heir to the leadership of the his criminal empire.
Some scenes of the film were shot in Acireale.
In particular, Acireale's Castello Scammacca is the Roman palace where the powerful politician Licio Lucchesi lives, who will be assassinated by a killer sent by Michael Corleone.
The Villa Limonaia, now a reception room, is instead the villa of Don Altobello, head of the Tattaglia clans who will try to exploit the friendship that bound him to Michael Corleone's father to bring the mafia into the International Real Estate.
