A man who saved Poggioreale inhabitants

Some eyewitness accounts tell of a man who managed to save the men of Poggioreale from the fury of the earthquake.
In the late afternoon of January 14, 1968, a middle-aged man, whose identity is not known to us, began to wander relentlessly through the streets of the town with the megaphone, urging his fellow villagers to abandon their homes and spend the night out fearing that shocks more powerful than those felt up to then could arrive.
It is as a result of his perseverance that the inhabitants of Poggioreale were convinced to abandon their homes. Thus it was that the two terrible tremors that came in the night razed the town to the ground but did not have the same consequences in Poggioreale, in terms of human losses, which unfortunately occurred in the neighboring villages.
