The wood of Aci, which once extended throughout the eastern area of ​​Etna, is surrounded by an ancient legend.
According to classical mythology, Zeus and the other gods threw the giants into Lucus Jovis, the wood of Aci following their attempt to access Olympus. This clash is remembered under the name of Gigantomachy, with the 24 giants protagonists of numerous legends who entered the collective imagination for having had the courage to challenge the gods of Olympus. Some giants following the crash were stuck in the trees of the Aci Wood and their excruciating expressions of pain generate worries and fears even to the Cyclops Polyphemus. The giants remained in the Aci Wood for a long time. The Bosco di Aci was also crossed by numerous other mythological characters, including Ulysses during his past in Sicily.
