Legend Praying Woman of Argimusco
Fistegi - CC4.0
The charm of the sculptures of Argimusco and in particular that of the "Praying Woman" has led to the birth of a legend.
In one of the Argimusco monoliths the silhouette of a woman in an attitude of prayer is carved, the "Woman praying". The face of the silhouette faces east, towards the summer solstice.
According to legend, the woman is Martha of Helicon, a virtuous woman who, in order to escape the advances of a demon of the woods, agreed to transform herself into stone.
The legend is inspired by classical mythology where Daphne, pursued by Apollo, transforms herself into a laurel tree in order not to fall into the arms of the god.
