Legend of the sleeping giant in Ramacca
A legend tells of a giant, with a good soul, who lies asleep on Poggio Santa Croce in Ramacca.
He reached Sicily many centuries ago with the aim of bringing peace and love and ending all conflicts and all injustices. In a short time the wars ceased and his message of peace spread throughout the island.
But the day came when, due to the greed of some men, battles and wars returned to shed so much innocent blood. The saddened giant, in a dark night without stars, lay down on the hill of Santa Croce di Ramacca, with his eyes turned to the black sky, and fell asleep. Many tried in vain to wake him up: he had turned to stone. It is said that the giant, before falling asleep, said he would wake up only when men learned to love each other.
The giant still sleeps on Poggio Santa Croce di Ramacca.
