Legend of Pietrazita in Sant'Angelo di Brolo
Legend of Pietrazita in Sant'Angelo di Brolo tells stories of bandits, the sad fate of a young woman and a hidden treasure.
At the time the legend is set, the territory of Sant'Angelo di Brolo was infested by bandits. It is said that a young woman, betrothed, was kidnapped by some bandits and taken into the woods, near a large rock which today bears the name of Pietrazita.
The leader of the bandits, upon the girl's refusal to satisfy his " birthmarks", ordered her to be killed. The bandits, before delivering the fatal blow, uttered the words You will guard with your blood the treasure found here.
It is said that the stone where the young girl died, engaged and about to get married, from which the name zita (fiancée) died, still holds the brigands' treasure, an intangible treasure because it is defended by the spirit of the zita.
