The legend tells of a princess brought to Ustica dying by her beloved, who had kidnapped her from the hands of her betrothed before she could reach the altar. According to legend, the man also stole the princess's dowry and hid it in Ustica. According to some the treasure has not yet been found, according to others the treasure was found by a local family. Everyone agrees that the legend is true.
In Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron a similar story is told and the island of Ustica is mentioned.
