A legend narrates the origin of Rocca Leone, the peak that dominates the town of Noavara di Sicilia.
The legend is set at the time of the struggles between Zeus and the Giants. It is said that Typhon, the most fearsome of the Giants, possessed a tame lion who was faithful to him like a dog. Zeus jealous of their strength, decided to separate the lion from his master and attacked him with his thunderbolts. The lion managed to avoid the first two arrows which fell on the surrounding hills forming the two mountains of Colle Barca and Pizzo Russa, but was hit by the third. He was thus petrified and his profile can still be recognized today in the Rocca Leone.
