Legend of the Sanctuary of Partanna
The legend tells of the miraculous event that gave rise to the cult of Madonna della Libera in Partanna.
Legend has it that, at the beginning of the 1700s, a merchant came to Partanna from Palermo to buy oranges. Along the path the man, attacked by a band of brigands, invoked the Madonna to help him. It was then that the Madonna appeared on a cloud spreading a very bright light and putting the robbers to flight. The merchant, as a sign of thanks for the miracle received, had a small church built and an oil picture of the image of the Madonna that appeared. of 1968 was destroyed. The current building was built starting from 1975. Today the Sanctuary is a pilgrimage destination from all over Sicily.
