Luigi Capuana was born in Mineo in 1839 and is one of the most important personalities of Verismo.
Luigi Capuana was a multifaceted personality: he was a writer, literary critic, theorist, journalist, designer, occult scholar, school inspector, politician, author of stories and fairy tales for children, university professor and last but not least photographer.
In fiction Luigi Capuana achieved maximum prestige. He deliberately created a new form of novel, conceived as a true document that dealt with a rural and regional reality, paying attention to the psychology of the characters, but treated in a completely impersonal way.
The Marquis of Roccaverdina, a novel published in 1901, is considered his masterpiece.
