The suggestive and deep gorges of the Alcantara River Park were chosen as the set for the film "Barabba".
The 1961 film directed by Richard Fleischer, starring Anthony Quinn in the role of Barabbas, tells the story of the bandit Barabbas who is fortunately freed at the expense of Jesus. After committing other crimes, Barabbas is sentenced to forced labor in a salt mine and sulfur of Sicily.
Among the places chosen as the set for the scenes shot in Sicily there are the Gorges of the Alcantara river park. The gorges are the place where Barabbas stabbed a member of his gang who had spoken ill of him.
