The film, directed by Francesco Rosi, was shot in 1976. The scenes shot in Siculiana have Piazza Umberto I with the war memorial as the backdrop. In the scenes, Inspector Rogas and the murder suspect are seen sitting at the foot of the monument. It is said that the registrar wanted to eliminate the small garden at the foot of the monument and replace it with stones to convey an idea of desolation that contrasted with the bright colors of the flowerbed.
