Places "Johnny Stecchino" - Giardini Naxos
In Giardini Naxos, a seaside village at the foot of Taormina, some scenes of the film "Johnny Stecchino" were shot.
Johnny Stecchino is a 1991 comedy written by Roberto Benigni and Vincenzo Cerami. The story tells of Dante, driver of a school bus for the disabled, played by Benigni, who meets Maria, played by Nicoletta Braschi, who is struck by Dante's resemblance to his Jonny Stecchino, again played by Benigni. Maria concocts the diabolical plan to make everyone believe that Dante is her Johnny so as to have him eliminated by his enemies. In the end, the plan is foiled by Maria herself.
There are many locations and scenes shot in Sicily, in particular in Palermo, Taormina, Giardini Naxos and Catania.
Giardini Naxos sets the scene at the Carabinieri barracks , which is actually the town hall, where Dante goes after the theft. In the same square of the historic center we find the bar where Dante meets who recommends him to retract the whole confession.
