Madonna of Tears of Chiusa Sclafani
The Madonna delle Lacrime of Chiusa Sclafani refers to a miraculous event that occurred in November 1835 in Chiusa Sclafani.
Human tears flowed from an effigy of the Virgin painted on glass, depicted together with Saint Joseph and the Baby Jesus.
The sacred image was found in the house of Donna Felicia Lombardi who kept an oil lamp lit in front of it. One evening, at the end of the recitation of the rosary, the lady's maid, while changing the oil in the lamp, noticed that tears were falling from the Madonna's eyes. Lady Felicia immediately ran up and saw the Blessed Virgin crying, but doubting her own eyes, she touched the tears with her finger. The finger got wet. The miraculous event was repeated five times: people of all classes and, naturally, priests, religious and nuns witnessed the tears. The archpriest of the time, in order to avoid anyone thinking that these tears came from walls soaked in damp or that they had been created artificially, had the stone table and the stone removed in front of the clergy and numerous witnesses. paper superimposed on the crystal. It was found that both the crystal, the paper and the table were completely dry. It was then decided to place the Holy Image in a cabinet with three crystals which was then closed and hermetically sealed. After two days, towards sunset, the Madonna was seen crying again. The last miraculous event dates back to 16 November 1835 when, after the Eucharistic blessing, the chaplain with other priests and faithful witnessed the miracle repeat itself.
