There is a place in the Alcantara Gorges where Venus used to bathe, in the waters warmed by Vulcan.
The myth of Venus and Vulcan tells that due to its beauty, Venus made the god Vulcan fall in love. The god, in a vain attempt to see his love reciprocated, heated the waters of the Alcantara river so that the goddess Venus could immerse herself in it without fear.
Soon the god realized that any attempt to please Venus in order to make herself loved was in vain, so seized by rage and anger, he made the waters of the river very cold to annoy the goddess who continued to ignore him.
From that moment the waters of the Alcantara river remained very cold, but according to legend, they still have magical properties: anyone try to enter the river completely regain the lost virtues.
