Origin of the name "Francofonte"
The name of the village of Francofonte derives from a fountain.
It is the fountain of Fonte Canali, also called Fontana Grande. In fact, the toponym Francofonte derives from the union of the words Fonte and Franca. In past centuries, certainly starting from 1366, Fonte Franca was in fact a Frankish source, as it was possible to draw water without paying any duty, which happened in many other feuds.
