A first hypothesis holds that the term Graniti probably derives from the type of hard stone scattered throughout the area with small spots in the form of Grani, the granite, with which the houses of the ancient village were built, traces of which still remain today.
The second hypothesis derives the term Graniti from the Arabic word ain, or fonte, to which would have been added, in local jargon, a guttural initial from which Gaìn-iti and then Ganitì, and then Granites.
