Origin of the name - Pozzallo -
The term Pozzallo is linked to the history of this ancient seaside village.
Originally Pozzallo was in fact known by the term Pausis-Alòs, i.e. Porto al Mare, a name with which it was called by the Saracens due to its great port activity. The following century, the name changed into Puteus-Alòs, i.e. Pozzo al Mare, with reference to the numerous fresh water wells that were used by ships to supply the own supplies before embarking on long journeys. Over the centuries the name changed to Puzzallu, Puzzallus, up to today's Pozzallo.
