The origin of the name of the town Sant'Alfio is linked to an ancient religious tradition.
According to tradition, the three martyr brothers Alfio, Filadelfo and Cirino, from a noble Spanish family and deported to Sicily around 253 AD, on their journey from Taormina to Trecastagni, crossed the place where Sant'Alfio stands today.
