The origin of the name of the town Sant'Alfio is linked to an ancient religious tradition.
According to tradition, the three martyr brothers Alfio, Filadelfo and Cirino, from a noble Spanish family and deported to Sicily around 253 AD, on their journey from Taormina to Trecastagni, crossed the place where Sant'Alfio stands today. And it was precisely in these places that the Miracle of the Beam occurred: a strong wind suddenly broke out, freeing the three brothers from the weight of a large beam that they had been forced to carry to make their journey more tiring. .
