Origin of the name - Siculiana -

In fact, a natural port had been created on the navigable river Canne, whose configuration made ports safe. This characteristic made this area known by the Latin name of Siculi Janua, i.e. Gateway to Sicily.
Later Siculiana became known for the presence of the Caricatore, i.e. a port specialized in the grain trade, known as Herbesso in the Roman-Punic age, as < em>Tirsat Abbadin the Arab era, as Cola-Cortina around the 16th century and then became simply the Caricatore di Siculiana.
