The origins of the name - Trabia - are linked to the Lanza Branciforte Castle.
The Lanza Branciforte Castle was founded by General Aausman Ben Muhammad in 827 AD: he built the fortress At Tarbiq in order to lay siege to the city of Termini Imerese. The characteristic square shape has influenced history to such an extent that the founders of the current town, the Branciforte-Lanza family, when it was granted to them in the century. XVII the licentia populandi chose the name of Trabia, from the Arabic At Tarbiq/At Tarbi'a, i.e. The square, the name with which it was called the fortress.
