The origin of the name Valguarnera Caropepe is linked to its history.
It is believed that the toponym of Caropepe may derive from the Sicilian name of Caripa, later vulgarized into Caropipi. This term appears for the first time in a road itinerary of the Anonymous Ravennate of the 7th century AD. entitled Ravennate Cosmography, obtained from texts older than the Roman itineraries. The first historical documents on Valguarnera appear in 1246, where the owner of the fiefdom is called Lamberto di Carupipi. The toponym of Caropepe is found in Bartolomeo Muscia (1296), a period in which the town was divided into Caropepe Soprano and Caropepe Sottano. In 1398 the fiefdom passed into the hands of the Valguarnera family. The name of Caropepe will remain until 6 October 1625 when D. Francesco Valguarnera obtains the execution of the privilege requested in 1549 for a town with the name Valguarnera to arise in the fiefdom of Caropepe.
