Valledolmo was originally known as Castel Normanno.
The presence of a large elm tree located in the first inhabited area, near the church of the Anime Sante, gradually led to the identification of this place with Valledolmo. In particular, the entire valley owned by the Sclafani family took the name of Valle d'Olmo. At the behest of the knight Antonio Cicala, the first houses, a public oven, a mill and the Church of the Holy Souls were built. However, the official founder of the town was his nephew Count Giuseppe Cutelli who obtained the licentia populandi in 1650.
