The origin of the name - Viagrande - seems to be connected to the position in which the village stands.
The city of Viagrande is in fact located along the ancient Strada Regia which connected Catania and Messina. The street was known by the name of Và Ranni, a term in Sicilian dialect which means Via Grande, hence the name of the place.
