Origin of the name - Zafferana -

Three hypotheses have arisen regarding the origin of the name Zafferana, all linked to characteristics of the territory.
The first hypothesis derives the term Zafferana from the Arabic term Zafarana, meaning a district rich in water. A second hypothesis derives it from the Arabic term Zaufanah, or "yellow". The yellow color refers to the large expanses of broom present in this area. A third theory links the term Saffron to the presence of saffron crops.
