The Landing of the Saints in San Vito Lo Capo
The historical re-enactment of the Landing of the Saints takes place every year in San Vito Lo Capo.
The Landing of the Saints on the beach of San Vito Lo Capo represents the most exciting moment of the feast in honor of San Vito: at sunset, little Vito, his nurse Crescenzia and the master Modesto arrive from the sea on a small boat. Upon the arrival of the small boat, all the boats at anchor in the port go out to sea, and joyfully welcome the small boat and the Saints.
This re-enactment recalls the moment of escape from the paternal home of the young Vito and his educators. In fact, the young Vito, rather than denying his faith and following the cult of the gods of the empire, preferred to move away from his homeland. Embarking at night on a ship, moored at the nearby beach, by divine favor, guided by the Angel of the Lord in the guise of a helmsman, he took refuge in Capo Egitarso, today's Capo San Vito - San Vito Lo Capo, hoping to find there the calm. After some time, San Vito was recognized and was forced to resume his pilgrimage.
